Update from Remind: Friday, January 25
We’re thrilled to share the news: Thanks to you, Bell Canada has informed us that they will #ReverseTheFee. As a result, we can continue to offer Remind text notifications for everyone who has a phone plan with Bell or its subsidiaries.
There will be no service disruption for anyone on the Bell network, and we’re grateful for Bell’s commitment to supporting accessible communication for all educators, students, and parents in Canada.
Unfortunately, text notifications will still be ending on Monday, January 28 for anyone with Rogers Canada or its subsidiaries. Please read on for more details.
What's happening
Starting Monday, January 28, educators, students, and parents will no longer receive Remind text messages if they have wireless plans with Rogers or any of its subsidiaries.
- If you’re an educator: People who normally get your Remind messages as texts may no longer receive them.
- If you’re a parent or student with Rogers: You’ll no longer receive Remind text messages. Read on for how to change your notifications to keep getting messages.
Why the Rogers fee affects text messaging on Remind
To offer our text messaging service free of charge, Remind has always paid for each text that users receive or send. Now, Rogers is imposing an additional fee intended for companies that send spam over their network.
Remind messages aren’t spam, but that hasn’t helped us resolve the issue with Rogers. Their fee increases our cost of supporting SMS in Canada to at least 25X our current cost—forcing us to end Remind text messaging for everyone on the Rogers network.
